On the plus side, this is shaping up to be a week without vending machine candy or other forms of refined sugar. It's pretty hard to run short on my calorie allotment when I have dates and dried apricots handy.

I get a little thrill when I see a reference to the "conventional meaning" of something in a standards document. The cosine function does predate the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers by about 2000 years, after all. This is still not a good reason to spend the next 5 hours reading mathematics articles on Wikipedia, especially when I barely understand them.

Speaking of Wikipedia, by now you've probably already seen that article comparing file systems that includes a table where the last column has the heading "Murders Your Wife". I saw it twice and read about a dozen comments before I realized it was a reference to something beyond what a treacherous, file-eating creature ReiserFS is.
