Zzz: June 13, 2008

This past weekend was a shambles. I slept for about 12 hours on Saturday and
something similar on Sunday. However, I still got laundry done and ran
the Roomba on
the bedroom and living room. The first 2 times I cleaned it
after establishing this schedule, there was a veritable hockey puck of hair
wrapped around the brush roller. This last time it was down to a mere bobbin,
so I have some hope that this is actually reducing the
total feedstock for dust production.

After comparing the saturated fat content with butter,
I'm trying out Nucoa's trans- fat free margarine again, and it looks
like I need to use a little more of it or substantially more
water to get oatmeal cookie batter that I can drop out of a spoon without
having to pat it back together every third time.
Given that I already have the Cuisinart and a blender, it looks like
the mixer is entirely redundant. It's too feeble for any mixing tasks
I might actually use it for, since I never use cream or eggs. So far
the only useful part of it has been the flour-sifter attachment, which
I've been using as a whisk.

One Game, One Remix Project, One Listener
As usual, I'm listing everything that I connected with significantly,
with the ones I really liked in bold.
- Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream
- I - Crisis
- 1. Deliverance of the Heart -
After a rather non-committal start, this breaks into some very nice vocals.
- 2. Every Story Begins with a Name
- As far as I'm concerned the first few minutes of this track
are the theme music for the Mars Phoenix Lander when it
became the first spacecraft to be
photographed while landing
on another planet.
- 7. Damn Those Turks!
- A very tasty arrangement of a track that was so lackluster
in the original version that I had no recollection of it
at all.
- 8. Adrenalyne Kyck - The rather morbid
monologue in the middle turns out to be a quote from Yoshinori
Kitase, who wrote the scenario for the game.
- II - Dirge
- 10. Sephiroth's Wake - Some of this is rather reminiscent
of the second half of The Orb's Adventures beyond the
Ultraworld.
- III - Advent
- 8. Kweh!
- I like this mostly because I like the actual tune.
- 9. The Crossroads - This comes across
as more of a mashup than a remix of a single song. Still
good, though.
- IV - Order
- 7. Jenova Returns - The Retronauts people seem to have
settled on this as their favourite song from the game because
it's the
best one that hasn't been overplayed into oblivion, and
this arrangement does no harm to it.
- 9. Black Wing Metamorphosis - Speaking of songs that have
been overplayed into oblivion, I think this arrangement does
something to rehabilitate this one.
