Dread Tide
Well, never mind my nonsense about playing IWBTG
"more judiciously". But my lack of sleep notwithstanding, this has been
a pretty OK week. I've found to my surprise that if I don't start the day
at work reading LJ and economics blogs and instead try to get something
substantial done, I feel better about work generally.
Also, I've been somewhat surprised to discover that if I have the stereo on
while I go about flossing, it suddenly stops being the awful chore that I
put off indefinitely. Of course, I can put off turning on the stereo, but
turning on the stereo on is significantly less onerous than hauling out a length
of floss and drudging away with nothing to do but ponder the state of my teeth.
A number of other things have been easing off from being painful compulsions
to something that I can simply do, like making dinner, or not making dinner,
depending. As far as I can tell, this trend of not tormenting myself with
self-defeating notions of success began when I took those unread books back
to the library.

Land on the Run
The to-do about the real estate market in the US and elsewhere brought me to
ponder a question; how much is something worth that cannot wear out and can
be used indefinitely? What is the fair market price for perfectly durable
goods? I'm guessing that in that situation, the price depends not on the
durability of the goods but on the durability of the market.
