From: Wayne Hayes Subject: Most boring 59MB audio file you'll ever hear Message-Id: <03Apr23.213416edt.453141-426@jane.cs.toronto.edu> Date: Wed, 23 Apr 2003 21:34:11 -0400 So there's this little lake called "Lake Artemesia" close to campus here in College Park, Maryland. "Lake" is a misnomer; it's about the same size as Grenadier Pond in High Park in Toronto, which is to say about 1km long by 200-300m wide. I ride past it frequently while commuting on my bike, and sometimes at night. So last night I was heading to a friend's house and the frogs were making quite a racket. Then I heard something I haven't heard in a LONG time: a bullfrog. So I decided to put my new MP3 player / voice recorder to work. [Aside: it's the iRiver IFP-195TC, with 512MB of built-in RAM, plus an FM receiver and recorder that can record live or off the FM. I'm very satisfied so far. Very nice interface, nice sound; highly recommended.] I left it sitting in the grass in the dark for 2h43m while I went to visit my friend. So, if you want to hear 2 hours and 43 minutes of chirping spring peeper frogs and crickets, feel free to download the following 59MB audio file. (Or you can quit the download after a few meg; it's pretty much all the same.) You can also hear the subway go by every 10-15 minutes and shake the ground mightily. Woo-hoo! Although I haven't listened carefully to the whole thing yet, I scanned through it at high speed and I think than damn bullfrog was silent the whole time. Bastard.
